Maria Henn

My passion for painting comes from the fun of experimenting with colors, textures, shapes, themes and stories.

I would call my works contemporary art, a kind of contemporary impressionism right up to the impetuous world of Informel. I portray emotions, pictures and memories of what I have seen, experienced and deeply moved me. Painting is an intuitive process for me. I do not do any studies or sketches in that sense. The idea and memory of experiences or natural formations are what drive me.

As soon as I start to paint, all that counts for me is color, which I apply to the canvas quickly, dynamically, often in an emotional outburst. In doing so, I do not completely dissociate myself from the idea of a concept, but I associate it with the moment of chance.

I am concerned with the dissolution of the classical form principle. As in the Informel, the picture calls for permanent destruction and transformation.

I celebrate this by building up, pouring, spraying, scratching, until layer by layer shows the nature of my picture. I play with different layers of color to bring depth into my paintings.

Despite the motives that could be associated with explosions and chaos, my art has a very peculiar sensibility and subtlety that opens up to the beholder after and more and more.
